Following the success of the Nintendo Switch’s release in 2017, it seems like Nintendo is trying to join the arms race that is the release fo the next generation of consoles. It makes sense why Nintendo would do this, the Switch was their first major success since the release of the original Wii. Hopefully, this newer version won’t be the unmitigated disasters that consoles like the WiiU were.
Apparently, the new Switch will likely arrive sometime in early 2021, and it will be a sort of deluxe upgraded Switch that the more hardcore Switch players and Nintendo fans will fawn over. This comes after 2019’s release of the Switch Lite, which was a cheaper version of the original Switch that served, basically, as an upgraded Nintendo 3DS. Hopefully, the upgraded console will offer enough new features to actually sell since it doesn’t seem like Nintendo can afford to squander another line of consoles, especially with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Reportedly the new console will feature an upgrade to 4K. This seems to be a similar jump to their upgrade from the Nintendo DS to the Nintendo 3DS. While this does sound sleek, real gamers want new, big titles that draws them to the Switch over other consoles, and that seems to be Nintendo’s biggest problem since they seem to just re-release old fan favorites like Animal Crossing or Super Smash Bros. There may be a big title coming with this release, but considering how tight-lipped Nintendo is being about it, they either want to build excitement – or they are not confident in it.
