Nintendo Switch OLED Model Available October 8, 2021

Nintendo has revealed that an OLED model of the Switch will hit the market on October 8, 2021. Nintendo announced on July 6 that this new model will be equipped with a new 7-inch OLED display, an improved adjustable stand, a dock with a wired LAN port, 64 GB of internal storage, and enhanced audio. This new OLED Switch will retail for $349.99 USD, a 50$ increase from the basic Switch.

The screen is one of the notable areas of change. The original Switch had a 6.2-inch LCD screen. On Nintendo’s Website, the company boasts that players will be able to “see the difference the vibrant screen makes, whether you’re racing at top speed or squaring off against enemies.” The screen will be able to produce images at 1080p. This comes in opposition to a previous report from Bloomberg that claimed the next installment of the switch would have 4k graphic capabilities.

The internal storage of the device will see a 32 GB increase from 32 to 64. This new edition holds slightly more weight than the original, weighing in at .71 pounds versus the previous .66 pounds. This new model is actually the same size as the previous switch, but with adjusted parameters to accommodate a larger screen. The battery life for the system will see no change from the previous Switch, which could survive anywhere from 4.5-9 hours according to Nintendo.

The new stand was actually a highly requested feature. The previous stand was thought to be too small and not durable enough, so the improved stand will be welcomed by Switch users.

The console dock’s design also experiences a slight change as the edges seem to be slightly more round with this version of the switch.

Joy-cons from the old switch will also be compatible with the improved model. The dock will also be able to hold the first version of the switch.

This new edition of the switch by Nintendo does not offer mind-blowing improvements but offers clear upgrades from the previous model.
