‘Poppy Playtime’ Chapter Five Won’t End The Nightmare

Is Chapter Five the final chapter of Poppy Playtime? The answer is no. Mob Entertainment has confirmed more chapters will follow after Feb. 18’s PC launch, with console versions following soon after. The fifth chapter is called “Broken Things.” More chapters are already in development.

Chapter Five of this game takes players on an even darker journey into Playtime Co.’s abandoned factory, where they must face The Prototype, the series’ shadowy puppeteer pulling the strings behind every player’s experience. Players can also expect new upgrades for their GrabPack tool, along with some of the most brutal environmental puzzles yet in the series, as well as some of the most twisted inhabitants yet to inhabit the factory that is sure to provide the franchise’s signature brand of stomach-churning horror.

The launch trailer gave us our first look at what may be the scariest creature yet in the series: the severely bandaged Huggy Wuggy, stalking players through bloody corridors, alongside other new, tortured creatures that may prove awkward but ultimately friendly allies.

Zach Belanger, co-founder and CEO of Mob Entertainment, said, “It pushes our storytelling and gameplay to new heights while staying true to our mission of surprising and engaging players. Beyond adding new scares, it expands the world of Playtime Co. and delivers an experience that will stay with fans long after they’ve finished playing.”

Chapter 4’s cliffhanger convinced fans that the game would only last five chapters, like Outlast and Until Dawn. Plenty of Reddit threads and Discord servers were also promoting the whole “final boss” theory associated with Chapter Five. Mob Entertainment shut down the rumors during the Chapter Five January reveal trailer.

Developers have confirmed the development of Chapter Six alongside polishing up Chapter 5. Console ports are set to arrive months after the PC release, suggesting a longer-term commitment rather than a rush to a conclusion.

The central theme of Chapter Six is to fully show off “The Prototype,” and the previous chapters have shown hands that will be part of something larger in the end. All of the mysteries surrounding Poppy’s escape, the radio messages from Ollie, and the Playcare orphanage will need to be wrapped up. There are also deeper corporate issues that have led to the disappearance of all the children at Playtime Co.

Chapter Five is out now and available on Steam. Fans can expect plenty of horror ahead with bigger puzzles from an evolved Prototype. Chapter Five launches Poppy Playtime‘s endgame, not its ending.
