To the surprise of absolutely nobody several months ago, Sony announced that their newest PlayStation would be appropriately dubbed, the ‘PlayStation 5.’
During CES 2020, Sony was able to announce many of their newest console’s features. For starters, many Sony fans snickered at the ‘new logo’ remark, since all the company did was change the 4 into a 5. However, gamers everywhere will be able to celebrate the addition of several key features.
The company’s spokespeople stated that the PS5 will be equipped with 3D audio and sound capabilities, adaptive triggers and the inclusion of an Ultra-HD Blu-Ray player. The biggest addition to them all, is the Ultra-High Speed SSD card, that will vastly improve the speed required to download games or play online. This means that users will no longer have to wait several hours to download sizable games like GTAV, or wait several minutes to respawn in offline servers, which are infamous in Bethesda’s Fallout series.
The last confirmed feature to be included into the PS5, is the addition of a virtual assistant that is compatable with both: the console and a user’s mobile phone. The AI, most likely inspired after Siri and Cortana, will be able to search the internet for clues about games whilst the user is still online. The assistant will also be able to provide players with in-game statistics — like in Call of Duty, or 2k Basketball — or by providing live information about a server’s speed. This way, players never have to pause the game or look away from their television screens.
Unfortunately, Sony did not show a live look at their hyped new console. Sony did however, take the time to debut their new electric vehicle. If Tesla can do it, why can’t Sony?
As far as an official announcement date goes, fans of Sony will just have to keep waiting.
