PS5 Now Features Warning When Starting PS4 Version Of Games

Many players have had the misfortune of accidentally buying a game on the PS4 when they originally meant to buy the PS5 version.

If you bought the PS4 version of a game that is also available on PS5, Sony’s newest console will now warn you if you’re playing the last-gen version of that game. Recently, Twitter user Tidux shared a photo of him attempting to play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla when he got a notification message saying, “You’re about to play the PS4 version of this game. Do you want to switch to the PS5 version?” It then allows you to go straight to the PSN Store and download the PS5 version of that game.

For a while, PS5 owners would download a game only to get the PS4 version of the game installed instead. This issue first came to the attention of many when owners of the PS5 version of Call of Duty found that they were accidentally playing the PS4 version of the game. While it’s still a hassle to download the PS5 version of a game, this new warning is still a step in the right direction.
