PS5 Reveal: All You Need to Know

Sony has presented a new generation PS5 console Thursday at a virtual reveal event, that has become the most-watched gaming live stream in YouTube history. The presentation was initially scheduled for June 3 but was postponed in light of nationwide anti-racism protests in the U.S., sparked by the death of George Floyd.

The main surprise comes as Sony launches two models of PS5: one with a 4K Blu-ray drive and a thinner looking Digital Edition, that has no disc drive. Users will be able to buy games for the Digital Edition in an in-game PlayStationStore. For the first time, the Sony console is featured in an all-white design, as opposed to previous models in black. Some Twitter users compared the new console design with the “wi-fi router.”

The PS 5 presentation started with a new GTA V trailer, showcasing the 2013 game’s upgraded edition, that will be available exclusively for PS5 in 2021. The expanded version features a number of visual upgrades and technical improvements.

“With a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements, GTA V & GTA Online will take full advantage of the PS5 hardware and its new features, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever,” said Sony in a press release statement.

Sony added that “all GTAV PS4 owners will get GTA$1,000,000 every month until the PS5 version of the game launches in 2021.”

Other PS5 exclusive games are Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, an action RPG Horizon: The Forbidden West, first person-action GhostWire: Tokyo, a real driving simulator GranTurismo 7, fantasy RPG Demon’sSouls, and a thriller Returnal. In addition, Sony announced PS4 games will be available to run on a new generation console.

Another PS5 technical novelty is a proprietary SSD solution 825GB of storage and 5.5GB/s of performance that is aimed to boost load times for games.

Other updates featured in PS5 include new gaming accessories, such as a DualSense charging station, a new HD camera, a Pulse 3D wireless headset and a media remote.

According to Statista, PlayStation outnumbered other consoles in sales, having sold over 108 million PS4 consoles worldwide as of March 2020. Meanwhile, Xbox One sold 49 million consoles and Nintendo Switch – 53 million.

It is anticipated that PS5 which is set to launch at the end of the year will sell for $450 to $499.
