Through a blog post on the PlayStation website, Insomniac Games announced that their upcoming game Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be coming to the PlayStation 5 on June 11, just under a year after it was announced at the PlayStation Showcase in 2020.
Insomniac also unveiled the official box art for the game which shows the titular Ratchet sharing the cover with the still-unnamed female Lombax and a bolt of lightning between them.
Insomnia explains that Rift Apart will be a stand alone story, making it a great game for both series fans and newcomers. The developer also hints that “longtime fans of the series will find deeper layers of connection to previous games.”
Alongside the standard edition of Rift Apart, Insomnia is releasing several deluxe and launch editions of the game for Ratchet & Clank super fans. Preorder versions will feature an exclusive set of armor and weapon from the 2003 game Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, now updated for PlayStation 5 HD textures and ray-tracing. If you spring for the digital deluxe edition, players get five sets of exclusive armor, in-game currency, a digital sticker pack, a digital art book, and a digital soundtrack. The deluxe edition will be $79.99 USD and $99.99 CAD.
For $69.99 USD and $89.99 CAD, though, Insomnia will be selling a “launch edition” package to gain access to preorder bonuses for the $10 premium.
Insomnia closed off their blog post poking fun that they still haven’t revealed the name of the female Lombax opposite Ratchet. “And yes, we know you are asking for the new Lombax’s name. And it’s not fair that we put her in the art and aren’t telling you yet. Hang in there,” they said. “You’ll be feeling rosy soon.”
