CD Projekt recently confirmed that The Witcher: Monster Slayer will release on July 21. This augmented reality game (similar to Pokémon Go) will release for Android and IOS. Spokko, which is CD Projekt’s mobile gaming branch, developed and published the game. The announcement was made on July 2 via a post to CD Projekt’s website. An announcement trailer was released as well.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be free to all players, and is described as a “location-based,” augmented reality role-playing game. Players will jump into the role of Witcher during “a time where monsters freely roam the land in large numbers” and when the “relatively new role of ‘witcher’ has become essential across the continent.” Players will use location services on their mobile devices along with augmented reality to find and battle a vast array of creatures.
The game’s website gives provides more details and even includes a gameplay trailer. Players will fight huge “life-size monsters” from a first-person perspective. They will also be able to create potions, oils and bombs to assist them in their battles. The mobile title will also contain “story-driven quests that propel you through epic adventures inspired by the Witcher Series.”
The game will take place “long before” the Witcher series of games, which were produced by CD Projekt Red. The first installment in the series was released in October of 2007. The most recent title to be released was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015, which sold over 30 million copies. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was the most recent Witcher-related release. The games were based on the book series by Andrej Sapkowski.
Spokko will allow those on Android to pre-register on Google Play. Pre-registering will also grant users the Kaer Morhen Steel sword immediately. This sword gives players a ten-percent experience boost for each creature they slay.
