Hollywood has suffered many major setbacks this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has been sweeping the world for nearly a year now. With some of its biggest movies delayed to next year, it’s been a rough year for the film industry.
Now, Tomb Raider 2, a sequel to the 2018 film based on the 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider video game franchise, has been delayed indefinitely. First announced in 2019, Tomb Raider 2 was to be released in March 2021. However, due to ongoing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic, MGM has decided to push the film back to a later date. Principal photography was originally planned to take place in April, with the cast and crew filming in England, South Africa, Finland and China.
The sequel sees Alicia Vikander reprising her role as Laura Croft, with Ben Wheatly directing the film, with wife Amy Jump acting as a scriptwriter. The film will be produced by Graham King through his GK Films banner, with Elizabeth Cantillon also acting as a producer.
