The Nintendo 3DS family will continue to receive support into 2018, and it will have a presence at this year’s E3. And, thanks to a dataminer, we may now know one of the upcoming games that’ll join the 3DS library: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
SciresM, known for his work in the Pokémon community, found evidence pertaining to a re-release of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Additionally, he uncovered the icon for the upcoming Ever Oasis, which can also be seen above.
Later, SciresM’s digging unearthed another tidbit: Nintendo has a listing referencing a “Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga\n+ Bowser’s Minions.”
While Nintendo hasn’t commented on the game, it’s clearly coming. For those unaware, the Wii U’s The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD was discovered in a similar manner.
Personally, I’m thinking one of Nintendo’s E3 surprises was spoiled. Notably, the first two Mario & Luigi titles were unveiled at E3, so it would be fitting to see this installment there. Plus, the latest entry, Paper Jam, was released in most key territories in 2015, so we’re about due for a new Mario & Luigi.
But what does the Bowser’s Minions addendum mean for Superstar Saga? We’ll have to wait and see.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga was originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, and it was ported to the Wii U Virtual Console in 2014. While it was the first entry in its series, Superstar Saga is arguably still the best one. AlphaDream was the developer behind the classic RPG, along with its sequels.
The turn-based combat successfully melded traditional RPG mechanics with a Mario flair, resulting in a unique experience. Notably, Superstar Saga is also well-regarded for its humor, especially in reference to Fawful, one of its original characters.
