Best Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers to Grab for ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ Remake
'The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time'
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has returned. Nintendo’s ground-up remake of the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic launched exclusively on Switch 2 on Nov. 5, and players gearing up to take on Ganondorf may want a better controller than the standard Joy-Con.
The remake sells for $59.99 digitally, or $69.99 for a limited-edition physical copy with textured foil cover art. Nintendo revealed the release date during its Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on Sept. 8, where series producer Eiji Aonuma showed off the first real gameplay. The update features full voice acting and lets players control the ocarina using the Switch 2 microphone.
Nintendo also released a limited-edition Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console, along with a matching Pro Controller and carrying case, on Oct. 29. The themed hardware quickly sold out in the U.S.
For players who missed out, or who just want a more comfortable way to play, here are some of the top Switch 2 controller options.
Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller ($89.00)
Nintendo’s official option is the priciest of the bunch, but it offers the most seamless Switch 2 experience. It includes back buttons and a 3.5mm audio jack. Reviewers have praised its battery life, though some have raised concerns about the long-term durability of its thumbsticks.
The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 is a popular third-party alternative that has drawn strong reviews for its build quality and features. It includes back buttons and comes with a charging stand. Its thumbsticks use technology designed to resist the stick drift that has long plagued Nintendo controllers.
Turtle Beach Rematch Wireless ($51.99)
This officially licensed budget pad works with the Switch 2 as well as the original Switch, Switch OLED and Switch Lite. Tom’s Guide praised it as a strong choice for players who can’t afford Nintendo’s Pro Controller.
At $49, the GameSir Super Nova is one of the best-value controllers available for the Switch 2. Tom’s Guide called it a better value than Nintendo’s official controller, though it noted the Pro Controller wins on battery life.
For Handheld Players
Players who prefer handheld mode have options too. Many third-party gamepads, along with Nintendo’s own Pro Controller, offer back buttons in docked mode, but handheld players often don’t get them. GamesRadar recommends the Nitro Deck 2, a grip that adds back paddles to handheld play.
Prices may vary by retailer, and several of these controllers are often discounted during sales.
The Ocarina of Time remake is part of Nintendo’s celebration of the Legend of Zelda franchise’s 40th anniversary. A live-action Legend of Zelda film is also set to hit theaters in 2027.
