‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Update 2.5 Adds ‘Edgerunners 2’ Story Quest, Dual-Wielding & Cross-Platform Mods

The studio released a surprise free update for Cyberpunk 2077, the Edgerunners 2 Update (also known as Update 2.5), which launched Thursday, Oct. 22, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow shortly after.
The update arrives just days after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the second season of the anime series produced by CDPR and Japanese studio Trigger, premiered on Netflix on Oct. 20 with all 10 episodes. It is the game’s first major update since Update 2.3 in June 2025, and comes as fans have repeatedly been told the game’s update cycle was winding down.
It is the most significant addition to the game since the Phantom Liberty expansion.
The headline addition is a brand-new quest that serves as a prequel to Edgerunners Season 2, following King’s crew on their final job. According to CDPR, the mission is more involved than the Season 1 crossover quest added in 2022, features the same voice cast as the show and rewards players with gear inspired by the series.
A new in-game radio station will also play music from both seasons of Edgerunners.
Players can also take part in Night City Tours, a new “cozy” quest type in which a guide leads V through the city while sharing lore. CDPR teased that the tours include secrets that even players with 800-plus hours haven’t found.
On the gameplay side, V can now dual-wield pistols and revolvers through a new skill on the Cool perk tree, mixing and matching weapons with different perks and effects. The developers said they left out shotguns and heavier weapons because balancing them would have been too complicated.
Cyberware is also getting a cosmetic overhaul, with 40 new looks and five new vendors stationed near Ripperdocs. Each vendor has its own backstory and sells different brands, each with its own color restrictions. For example, Arasaka won’t let players go neon pink.
Other additions include collectible Minor Arcana tarot cards that unlock new dialogue with Misty, plus previous Twitch outfit sets and four new clothing sets.
In a major technical upgrade, Cyberpunk 2077 is adding cross-platform mod support for the first time through a new in-game panel that lets players search for and install mods on consoles. Console players are also getting field-of-view customization, while PC players gain support for DLSS 4.5.
The update caps a remarkable turnaround for a game that launched in December 2020 after multiple delays and was pulled from the PlayStation Store within days due to severe bugs. Years of patches, the Phantom Liberty expansion and the success of the first Edgerunners season helped win players back. As of July 2026, the game had sold more than 40 million copies.
Update 2.5 arrives just weeks before Cyberpunk 2077‘s sixth anniversary.
