Grand Theft Auto 6 may take up a massive chunk of players’ console storage when it launches next month, according to a leaker who claims to have a copy.

The prolific leaker known as Cyberleek, who has been posting unauthorized footage of the game for months, says the development build they have been using has a total download size of roughly 200 GB, according to SVG. The leak comes as Rockstar Games prepares for the November 19 release of one of the most anticipated games of all time, and as the publisher continues to deal with unauthorized gameplay and map leaks, including from a group threatening Rockstar over its digital-only release.

That digital-only approach makes the download size especially important. Instead of shipping a traditional physical disc, Rockstar is offering only a download code in a retail box, meaning every player will need to download the full game.

Cyberleek briefly went quiet before resurfacing in October with more leaked gameplay and details. Rockstar has not confirmed the claims, and it is unclear which version the leaker has, how they obtained it, or how it differs from the retail release. Still, the volume of gameplay Cyberleek has shared so far has given their reports some credibility.

A 200 GB install would make GTA 6 one of the largest video game downloads ever. For comparison, Rockstar’s last major release, 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2, launched at around 125 GB on PlayStation and Xbox and around 150 GB on PC. GTA 6‘s fictional state of Leonida, which includes its version of Vice City, is expected to be significantly larger than the Red Dead Redemption 2 map.

If the leaked figure is accurate, it could force many players to clear space on their consoles. A base PlayStation 5 has about 665 GB of usable storage, meaning GTA 6 alone would take up nearly a third of it. The Xbox Series X offers about 800 GB of usable space.

The Xbox Series S is tighter, with just 365 GB of usable storage. GTA 6 would take up more than half the console’s capacity before you even add other games or apps.

The PS5 Pro, with about 1.86 TB of usable space, is the only current console likely to handle the install comfortably.

For players who have already pre-ordered, deleting a few games to make room probably won’t be a dealbreaker. But SVG notes the hefty install could give pause to players still on the fence about buying the game.

The retail version may also be more optimized than the development build, bringing the final size down. Players won’t have to wait long to find out. Pre-loading for GTA 6 begins November 12, one week before launch, when the official file size will be confirmed.

Rockstar has been building anticipation for the game in recent weeks, including an extended showcase on Netflix and a series of cinematic trailers featuring protagonists Jason and Lucia.
