Last year’s E3 gave fans a slight glimpse of the massive RPG CD Projekt Red was working on, Cyberpunk 2077, but gave us little info other than that it was in development, along with some gameplay. At this year’s E3, we got more news. Exciting news as well. CD flexed their muscles with this one after their well-acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but this RPG takes place in a completely new environment, a new challenge for the developers. CD won most of our pre-orders already from the promising game mechanics, in-depth storytelling and immersive environment, but that was before CD unveiled that Keanu Reeves was going to be playing a major character in the game. If that wasn’t enough to get your pre-order, developers have announced that your decisions throughout the game will influence how it will end for you. Cyberpunk 2077 is built on branching endings.
The open-world detail and dialog trees are going to immerse players into the 2077 world. There have been few single-player games that have been this hyped-up, besides maybe Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 or Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Cyberpunk 2077 was the most-viewed event at this year’s E3 and ruled over other announcements. CD’s last major RPG, The Witcher 3, had three different endings that could take place which were influenced by the decisions you made prior.
At an interview with YongYea during this year’s E3, game developer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz confirmed the game will have multiple endings. He did not say how many different endings Cyberpunk 2077 has, but more than one is always a promising sign for a well, thought-out game.
Whether you decide to play the game like a villain or a good samaritan or something in between, the engine will recognize your deeds throughout the campaign that will influence your next step. Tomaszkiewicz confirmed you can play the entirety of the game without killing anyone.
Cyberpunk 2077 is easily the most hyped-up game for 2020, and launches on April 16, 2020. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It is unconfirmed whether or not we will see the game on the new, next-gen consoles such as the PS5 or the Xbox Scarlett.
