‘Slay The Spire 2’ Ventures Into Early Access On March 5

Last month, Slay the Spire developer Mega Crit treated its fans to the reveal of the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 roguelike deck-building game. It has now been released in Early Access.

The Mega Crit YouTube channel posted the Early Access Trailer for Slay the Spire 2 on Feb. 19. The video began with an action-packed animation and then transitioned into gameplay footage. Most notably, the trailer flashed the words, “All New Cards – All New Characters – All New Events – All New Relics – All New Potions – All New Abilities – All New Alternate Acts – And More in Early Access.”

The current Steam page for Slay the Spire 2 has a description that says:

“For 1,000 years, the Spire lay dormant, its secrets buried and its horrors forgotten. Now, it has reopened, hungrier and more dangerous than ever, devouring all who dare to ascend. New perils demand sharper strategies, relentless cunning, and unwavering resolve. Outwit the Spire’s brutal trials and uncover the truths hidden at its peak.”

The game’s biggest selling point is its brand-new co-op mode, which lets up to four players brave the ascent together. The Steam page adds that fans can discover “powerful team synergies” and “multiplayer-specific cards.”

Beyond the new co-op feature, the Steam page also states that there will be “a new and returning cast of characters, each with their own cards, motives, and secrets.” The trailer showcased two new characters, the Necrobinder and the Regent, and confirmed that the Defect will return from the previous game. It is only a matter of time before more characters are revealed.

The page concludes by reassuring, “the Spire truly is ever-changing… in more ways than one. More content—including cards, events, environments, enemies, and more—will be added and balanced throughout Early Access. Join the journey early to be a part of the Spire’s next evolution.”
