‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Is No Longer Eligible For The Game Awards

Every year, Geoff Keighley brings together some of the most trusted gaming journalists and critics to vote on the best games released at the end of each year. While this year’s show won’t be as big as last year’s event, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it still on track to premiere online on December 11. However, games that were released in December are not eligible for a nomination, meaning that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be eligible for The Game Awards. Last week, Keighley tweeted that Cyberpunk 2077 will instead be eligible for an award at next year’s show.

Earlier this week, CD Project Red Announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed to December 10 (which happens to be the day before the Game Awards) to ensure that the game can run on current-gen consoles. Recently, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski explained in a conference call that the cause for the most recent delay to their game was so that “the company is finalizing the process concerning current-gen consoles,” with the game running well on both PC and the next-gen systems (though the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 won’t arrive until 2021).

With one of the most anticipated games no longer in the run for Game of the Year, it’s going to be interesting to see who wins Game Of The Year and how audiences will react.
