‘Devil May Cry V’ Won’t Receive Ray-Tracing On Xbox Series S

From the start, Microsoft has touted the Xbox Series S as the weaker but the more affordable version of its next-gen consoles. If you wish to get the full 4K next-gen experience, you’ll have to save up for the Xbox Series X. But, Microsoft has also promised that one of many features coming to the next-gen Xbox consoles would be ray-tracing on all of its games. That doesn’t seem to be the case, as Devil May Cry V: Special Edition will not launch with ray-tracing on Xbox Series S.

Announced on the official Devil May Cry Twitter account, Capcom has released a statement saying that while ray-tracing will be available on Xbox Series X as a downloadable update, the Xbox Series S will not be receiving the same feature. While it will be disappointing that ray-tracing won’t be available on Xbox Series S, you will still be able to play the game at a much higher framerate, as with the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions. If anything, ray-tracing would require forcing the game to cap at 30 FPS if you wanted to play in 4K. Seeing how Devil May Cry games live-or-die by the speed of their gameplay, it’s not too big of a loss when putting frame-rate into account.

Devil May Cry V: Special Edition will launch digitally alongside the release of the Xbox Series X/S and PS5, with a physical copy being made available on December 1.
