Luigi's Mansion 3 (Nintendo)
Yesterday, third-party publisher Capcom confirmed their Nintendo Switch re-releases of Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 were coming to the console-handheld hybrid on October 29, two days before Halloween. Today, Nintendo followed up on that by confirming their upcoming Luigi’s Mansion 3 will hit their namesake platform on Halloween itself, meaning Switch owners will have plenty of spooky games to enjoy.
Set within the corrupted confines of the Last Resort Hotel, Luigi’s nemesis King Boo has abducted Mario, Peach and Toad. Luigi, never one to let King Boo reign free, sets out to save his friends. Once more players will team up with eccentric inventor Professor E. Gadd and his slimy clone Gooigi, trekking across the establishment to suck up ghosts and save the day. Players can also partake in the returning ScareScraper multiplayer mode with up to seven friends online or locally.
In an interview posted a few days ago with The Verge, producers Yoshihito Ikebata and Kensuke Tanabe discussed the newcomer Gooigi, who debuted in last year’s Nintendo 3DS re-release of the original Luigi’s Mansion as a tease. “I wanted to put Gooigi in the 3DS version with no explanation whatsoever,” Ikebata admitted. “My hope was people would see him and be like: ‘What is this?’”
Gooigi himself isn’t a ghost, he’s merely made of the ectoplasm they produce. This unique composition allows him to squeeze into tight corners his namesake can’t, a boon for puzzles that require players to switch between the two. Among other things discussed in the interesting interview, Tanabe joked (teased?) that Luigi’s liquid sidekick could star in his own adventure someday. “There might be a Gooigi-only spinoff perhaps, with all different colors,” the Nintendo veteran said. “Gooigi Power Rangers.”
