‘Magic: The Gathering’ Releases New Set ‘Edge of Eternities’ & Fans Have Mixed Reactions

Magic: The Gathering globally released a new set on August 1 titled Edge of Eternities, which is the third and final story arc of the Metronome Storyline. MTG Arena and Magic Online were released on July 29.

The pack introduces The Edge, a new region located outside of the multiverse that borders the Blind Eternities, the space between planes in the Multiverse.

Magic: The Gathering – Play Boosters

Players can choose from 14-card boosters to build their deck or draft with friends, available for $5.49.

Collector Boosters

Each interstellar booster includes Rares and/or Mythics, Traditional Foils and a Borderless Celestial basic land. Players can uncover Borderless Poster Stellar Sights cards, or even the supervoid Sothera, available for $24.99.

Commander Decks

Commander decks are equipped with a Collector Booster sample pack and introduce 12 new cards, including two Borderless Traditional Foil cards and two New Rare Dual Lands, available for $44.99.

Bundle

The bundle includes Nine Play Boosters, 30 lands (ten featuring Celestial Basic Full Art), and an exclusive, oversized Spindown. This bundle is available for $57.99.

Fan Reactions

Magic: The Gathering fans took to social media to express their thoughts and opinions on the upcoming Edge of Eternities release.

Under the r/MTG subreddit, a user posted, “I think there are a lot of missed opportunities. I think this set would have been so amazing if it were focused on Eldrazi, Fomori, Slivers, Guidelights, and wacky alien species.”

Another user disagreed, responding with, “See, I have the exact opposite feeling. When the set was announced, I was worried it would do some nonsense with Eldrazi and slivers and wacky alien species while being filled with annoyingly on-the-nose Star Wars and Dune references. Instead, there are new ideas and cool world-building while still staying rooted in Magic.”

Fans on X felt that Edge of Eternities was too rushed. One comment stated, “There are like 2 sets between now and then. Can we focus on one thing at a time??” Another commented, “Magic, I need you to slow down. I know Aetherdrift is out, but max speed on set releases & promotions is too crazy,” along with, “You guys make too much product. I took like 3 months off and somehow missed 8 sets.”
