Microsoft Plans On Releasing Some Of Xbox’s Exclusives On Other Consoles

In a recent episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced that some of the exclusive titles from Xbox will be ported to other consoles for the first time. He confirmed that titles like Starfield and all of the Indiana Jones games from the Bethesda library will be among the games being ported.

So far only four games have been announced to be a part of this incentive, Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush, Obsidian Entertainment’s Pentiment and Grounded and Rare’s Sea of Thieves. Spencer commented in the podcast that it is a part of “their commitment” to make their products and games as widely available as they can make them.

In October 2023, Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for almost $69 billion after two years of talks between the companies.

Despite pushback from the FTC fearing that the company would gain a monopoly in the gaming industry, the deal went through, leading the company’s revenue to grow by 61% in the last quarter with projections showing that the company will continue to gain after this deal.

On March 28, the first Activision Blizzard title, Diablo IV, will be released on Xbox’s Gamepass making the game further accessible to the service’s 34 million users with plans to further integrate the company’s library onto the service.

These recent decisions from the company are in the belief that it would further benefit the industry’s longevity as the gaming division of Microsoft has grown almost to be larger than the company’s Windows division. Although in terms of success for the wider industry, Xbox sales still lag behind both Nintendo and Sony as the Xbox Series X/S has sold much fewer units than both the PlayStation 5 and Switch consoles.
