Microsoft Sunsetting ‘Halo’ On Xbox 360

The days of Halo on the Xbox 360 are coming to an end. Last week, 343 Industries announced that they would be pulling the plug on Halo for the Xbox 360. 343 stated that the reasoning behind this decision has to do with “significant time and resources which directly impacts the studio’s ability to support current and future projects like Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo Infinite,” in addition to dwindling player count. Seeing that the Master Chief Collection features improvements to every Halo game, as well as the collection coming to PC, many players have been spending their time over on PC and current-gen systems.

Starting this month, Microsoft will be halting digital sales of the Xbox 360 versions of every Halo game, though you’ll be able to download all DLC for these games for free if you have them in your library. Finally, online servers for every Halo game on 360 will be discontinued in December 2021, though an exact date has not been released. The next installment in the Halo series, Halo Infinite, will arrive for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2021.
