Microsoft’s New Console, Project Scarlett Details And Other News

The next series of consoles are on their way. The PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett are confirmed to be coming up sometime in 2020, most likely before the holiday season. It’s been since 2013 since the releases of Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One, and while the two respective parties have released variations of the two systems, there hasn’t been a new, fresh console on the market from these two competitors in over six years.

For Project Scarlett, which is what Microsoft is calling it, it has been reported that they plan on releasing two separate consoles under the project, a premium, dominant model, as well as a budget effective model. No matter what they decide to do, they plan on it being a high-powered machine. Xbox Boss Phil Spencer dives into some of the capabilities, such as “featuring hardware accelerated raytracing, variable refresh rate, 8K capability and ultra-low latency input, Project Scarlett will deliver a new level of fidelity, precision and accuracy never before seen in console gaming,” according to Express.

According to GameSpot, the Scarlett Project console will obtain a disc drive, meaning you can still play physical, hard copy discs, also meaning it will likely support your Xbox One games. Microsoft confirmed that, saying, “With Project Scarlett, we continue our commitment to compatibility by ensuring your gaming accessories and Xbox career will also move forward with you, along with thousands of games across four console generations which will look and play best on Project Scarlett.”

Now Microsoft decided to keep the details close to the chest in terms of just about anything else besides the hardware specs. There are, however, some big-name title releases that will be coming to the next-gen consoles. According to Business Insider, the likes of Starfield, Elder Scrolls VI and Halo Infinite are bound to be title launches when the new console is ready. Microsoft and their team will make sure that their new console will come with some major, A+ titles.

Spencer described it as a “bigger leap than any generation we’ve done before,” according to GameSpot. It’s the “most powerful and highest performance console we’ve ever designed.”
