Super Smash Bros.
On October 1, Nintendo and Mojang shocked the world when it was revealed that Minecraft‘s Steve, Alex, Zombie and Enderman would arrive as playable fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While it’s insane that the blocky characters of Minecraft would arrive beating the living hell out of characters like Mario, Link, Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog, it’s even crazier to learn that the arrival of Steve and the gang to Smash Bros. has been in the works for five years.
When the former production director for Minecraft, Daniel Kaplan, retweeted Mojang’s Twitter account’s announcement, he tagged Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad in another retweet where he asked, “guess when these discussions started?” Ahmad responded by saying, “2014,” implying that Steve’s arrival to Smash Bros. has been in the works for years. Later on, in responding to a skeptical user, Kaplan said that discussions of Steve and the gang coming to Smash Bros. started at least five years ago. This could imply that Steve could’ve arrived on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released in 2018 and has featured many third-party heroes as DLC, including Banjo-Kazooie, Joker from Persona 5, and The Hero from Dragon Quest.
