Palworld players have spent over a year building bases, breeding creatures, and occasionally watching their own Pals spontaneously combust for no better reason than standing too close to a campfire they built themselves.
As of September 7, that particular indignity is over. Update 1.0.4, now live across Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Game Pass, quietly retires one of the game’s longest-running annoyances alongside a broader wave of new content, balance tweaks and roughly 80 bug fixes.
The fire fix reads almost like a punchline in the patch notes: “Players, summoned Pals and base Pals no longer catch fire from touching a Campfire you built yourself.”
But for anyone who has managed a busy base, it addresses a genuinely persistent hazard — Pals wandering too close to their own light source and bursting into flame, sometimes mid-task, sometimes just standing around. It’s the kind of fix that won’t make headlines on its own, yet quietly removes a source of low-grade base-management chaos that’s dogged the game since launch.
The update isn’t just cleanup, though. Two new sub-missions have been added, both starting at Fisherman’s Point in Mount Obsidian: “Beyond Dimensions” opens the door, and clearing it unlocks the follow-up, “From the Far Side of the Moon.” Developer Pocketpair paired the new content with a fishing overhaul, rebalancing difficulty across the World Tree and Sunreach regions and adjusting bait yields — Risky Bait now nets an 80% item bonus, a meaningful boost for anyone grinding rare catches.
Resource gathering also got friendlier. Ancient Bark, previously locked behind a higher Work Suitability requirement, now only needs Level 1, meaning any lumbering-capable Pal can collect it instead of forcing players to hunt down specific higher-tier creatures. Two “Pal Critic” reward swaps make certain unlocks easier to reach as well: Dogen now stands in for Selyne in Sakurajima, and Faleris Aqua replaces Bastigor in Sunreach.
Under the hood, the patch cleans up a long list of technical issues: three passive skills — Lucky, Idiosyncratic, and Mercy Hit — that weren’t functioning as intended have been repaired, a Radiant Gem elemental bug affecting World Tree farming is fixed, and two mission-blocking bugs (one tied to the Panthalus/World Tree Guardian encounter, another involving Axe and Pickaxe crafting) have been resolved. Various crash triggers were also patched, including overlapping NPC dialogue, fishing animations, and multiplayer sync issues, plus a Partner Skill glitch affecting Killamari Primo.
Performance took a pass too: Xbox One and PS5 co-op sessions should see reduced memory usage, and rendering and foliage optimizations aim to cut down on stuttering. Quality-of-life additions round things out — a name-search feature in the Palpedia, improved PS5 chat functionality, per-player building placement caps, new no-build zones around key mission areas, and a PC default FPS cap now raised to 120.
None of it is flashy on its own. But between the new missions, the fishing rework, and the small mountain of fixes, 1.0.4 is the kind of patch that makes the game feel noticeably less janky to actually live in — starting with the simple fact that your Pals can finally stand next to a fire without becoming one.
