If there is anything a gamer likes besides playing, it is finding out what they could be playing next in their free time. PlayStation Showcase did just that with an event that featured 30 games.
The showcase featured some long-running, multi-generational game series titles, such as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage and Final Fantasy XVI. However, there were brand new games present as well, like Bungie’s new sci-if PvP extraction shooter Marathon and Square Enix’s Foamstars.
Other featured titles included a new expansion called The Final Shape for Destiny 2. The PlayStation blog article teased this content with a surprise appearance from Cayde-6. The fan favorite from the series has actor Nathan Fillion reprising his role as the Exo Hunter.
PlayStation also announced its work on a new handheld referred to as Project Q.
“We will launch a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi,” Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said about the gadget. He also mentioned that Project Q will also feature an eight-inch HD screen and elements of the DualSense wireless controller.
However, there were those who found the showcase itself to be “disappointing.”
“The main problem was that nearly all of the biggest games shown in Sony’s PlayStation showcase are … also coming to Xbox,” Forbes’ Paul Tassi said of the event.
Big questions remain even around certain titles. Despite being one of the most anticipated games of the year, PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man 2 doesn’t have a release date outside the lackluster specificity of “Fall 2023.”
Still, PlayStation gamers have plenty of things coming their way to keep their time until then. Leading the charge this summer are titles like Street Fighter 6, Exoprimal, Sea of Stars and more.
Until then, game on.
