After the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! in November of 2018, Pokémon is back in 2019, with the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield on November 15th, 2019. Pokémon Sword and Shield will be compatible with the Poké Ball Plus.
During the Nintendo Treehouse live stream, developer Junichi Masuda announced that previous Pokémon caught in other games won’t all be transferable to the new Sword and Shield, and the coming future games for Pokémon.
“In previous games that worked with the Pokémon Bank service, you were able to, for example in Sun and Moon, bring over any Pokémon even if they weren’t in the Alola Pokédex,” Masuda said during the presentation, according to Kotaku. “With the transition to the Nintendo Switch hardware, with it being much more powerful and allowing us to be much more expressive with each of the individual Pokémon, and now we’re well over 800 Pokemon species in the games.”
This means that new progress will be started now with the new Pokémon Home. Pokémon Sword and Shield will be the reset for the massive RPG series. The new 800 Pokémon will come with new features to fit into the newer titles in the upcoming Switch games. Pokémon Home is a new cloud-based service that will serve as the new saved data for your progress across the multiple Pokémon titles.
This new cloud-based save will not be able to transfer your progress that fans of the game have been working on ever since the release of Pokémon. Unfortunately, the developers did this due to major balance and development issues.
Pokémon Home is accessible through iOS, Android and the Switch itself. This new save base will act as a restart to your progress.
There will likely be more info released in the coming future with Nintendo’s Tree House live stream on Wednesday and Thursday.
