Bloober Team has recently announced that they are currently developing a remake of the original Silent Hill.
After the global success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, it was only a matter of time before Bloober Team remade another. The Silent Hill 2 remake, released in 2024, won that year’s Steam Awards for “Outstanding Visual Style” as well as sold two million copies.
The original Silent Hill was released in 1999 and was a complete success, selling almost two million copies in its first year. With such a positive response from fans, Konami immediately started developing Silent Hill 2, which was later released in 2001.
The psychological-horror game follows protagonist Harry Mason as he travels to the supernatural town of Silent Hill, Maine, with his adoptive daughter, Cheryl, following the death of his wife, Jodie. While driving, Harry spots a girl-like figure in the streets, causing him to swerve off the road and crash his car. When Harry regains consciousness, he notices Cheryl is missing. The player will then take control and wander through the eerie streets of Silent Hill, Maine, to find Cheryl.
In the r/Games subreddit, a user commented, “The Silent Hill 2 remake was absolutely fantastic, so I’m extremely excited to see what they do here with the first game.”
Fans were also appreciative that Bloober Team chose to remake the original Silent Hill and not Silent Hill 3, “Good, people kept saying they should remake 3 next, and that made no sense to me. 3 is a direct sequel to 1. Why would you remake that first?”
