Henry Cavill in Netflix's The Witcher
While there’s usually nothing exciting to report about the comings and goings from Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass cloud-hosted game library, this month will see the sending off of CD Projekt Red’s universally-acclaimed masterpiece The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on March 15.
Neither Microsoft nor CD Projekt Red have confirmed why the role-playing game is on its way out, but a recent security breach by hackers into CD Projekt Red’s files confirmed that an updated version of The Witcher 3 was in late-development as of February. CD Projekt Red announced the enhanced port close to the release of next generation consoles in November, but gave no estimate on the remaster’s release window.
The Witcher 3 is one of the most legendary role-playing games of the last decade. The game made monumental waves when it came out in 2015. I still play The Witcher 3 regularly, more than six years after its release. After six years, and certainly multiple full days of play, I still have so much more of Velen, Skelege, and the several massive worlds of The Witcher 3 to explore.
I am not the first, nor will I be the last person to say The Witcher 3 is one of my favorite role-playing games.
I’m betting a good majority of those losing cloud access to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on March 15 will take advantage of Microsoft’s policy allowing players to buy cloud games for 20% off their MSRP.
