The iconic 3D fighting is back, with more features to quench your thirst for violence.
Created by Sega-AM2 and designers Yu Suzuki and Seiichi Ishii, Virtua Fighter has been widely recognized since its first game released in 1993. Over the years, the intense fighting gameplay withstood the test of time, producing four main sequels and several spin-offs that grounded a sturdy fanbase of Virtua Fighter. This summer, fans get to revisit the nostalgia by fighting in the newest remake of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown.
Following a little teaser from Sega regarding some kind of new Virtua Fighter project last year, the rumor of a remake of Virtua Fighter surfaced on the internet thanks to rating board classifications. But it is now official that a remake of Virtua Fighter will drop on June 1.
As an updated version of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, which was released to arcade in 2006 and then to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007, Ultimate Showdown will carry over the existing gameplay and mechanics that have been deeply favored by the fans over a decade, including “Ranked Match,” “Arcade,” “Training” and “Versus.”
More game modes such as “Tournaments” and “League” will be available in Ultimate Showdown. You get to take on all challengers as you compete with up to 16 players in round-robin style online tournaments, accompanied with the new communication system like stamps.
There will also be more refined presentations to engage the gamers. According to a Sega spokesperson, the graphics are being rebuilt from scratch using RGG’s Dragon Engine technology. In addition to the updated character models and stages, new background music will also be added to enhance your senses during the fighting.
For the original Virtua Fighter 5, IGN has given a very positive comment, acclaiming the game for having the “most intuitive and robust fighting systems ever assembled.” Players are anticipating to see whether Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown gets to hold on to such a praise exclusively on PS4.
