YouTuber Karl Jobst Unravels Elon Musk’s Reasons For Cheating At Video Games

The feud between Elon Musk and the gaming community over his in-game cheating continues, and YouTuber Karl Jobst is getting to the bottom of his dishonest behaviors.

Weeks ago, Musk was called out by many gamers for his apparent cheating in Diablo IV. Established players identified that his actual skill level during a live stream was not nearly as good as it should be for his in-game ranking and accused the billionaire of cheating. Most notably, the popular streamer, Asmongold, made several observations to point out Musk’s clear use of cheating. Musk did not appreciate Asmongold’s comments and responded to them by mocking the streamer and leaking his private messages. 

Now that the cat’s out of the bag and everyone knows that Musk was not being transparent about his gaming prowess, speedrunner Karl Jobst revealed that his next video would be on getting to the bottom of Musk’s cheating situation as Jobst is also known for identifying and critiquing cheaters. “I’m not sure the story has been told entirely accurately,” he said.

Jobst is in no way defending Musk’s cheating but offering a perspective that many failed to consider when the world’s richest man was exposed for cheating in a video game. “Maybe him being so deluded about his own ability is why he is where he is today,” Jobst points out. “He thinks he’s great at everything. It doesn’t matter if someone else helped him get his account so high. He thinks he’s such a good gamer that he doesn’t need to put in the thousands of hours.”

Basically, Jobst’s theory is that being super rich and famous, Musk is actually just so out of touch that he fails to recognize how average his playing really is even though he’s had his account boosted to a high level. Musk has boasted about his gaming skills even though he paid for his account to be boosted while failing to recognize the individual(s) who got his account to such a high level. When asked if he intended to take full credit for his in-game status, Musk said “No, never claimed that. The top accounts in Diablo and PoE require multiple people playing the account to win a leveling race.”

Though this comment from Musk did not come from Jobst, the YouTuber did say something that explains it very well. “It’s entirely plausible that he just doesn’t really appreciate how much effort it takes to be really good at something,” he said. “Does he actually have a good understanding of that, so when he does lie about how good he is, how much that’s disrespecting the work that actual best players are putting in?” My guess: no. 

Thanks to Jobst’s analysis and some other interviews, it’s now clear what Musk’s perspective on cheating in video games is: Why take my time getting to the top when I can pay someone to do it for me now?

Based on Musk’s behavior and comment about winning a “leveling race,” it’s apparent that he’s more interested in the ends than the means when it comes to these games. Musk would rather use every available resource to have a top account than simply play the game at his own pace. It seems that to him, it doesn’t matter how well-deserved or hard-earned the title is as long as it is attained in some way, so why not pay the pros to make your account the best one? A fitting perspective on gaming from the richest person in the world.
