The 2006 game Bully was a cult classic title by Rockstar Games that left fans wanting more the second they were finished it. For years there were rumors upon rumors of a second game being developed. Another Rockstar game, Red Dead Redemption 2, has several references to Bully, leading fans to truly believe that another game was in the works.

It turns out there was a Bully sequel coming in the early 2010’s. However, enthusiasm for the game fizzled out and was subsequently cancelled during development.

Development was centered at Rockstar New England and got as far as having a playable demo with “basic open world gameplay” before work stopped in late 2013.

Dan Houser, Rockstar co-founder and GTA and Red Dead Redemption writer, alongside his team finished a script for the potential sequel as early as 2008. It included initial scenes and an outline of the rest of the plot.

The protagonist from the first game, Jimmy, returned as it starts in his stepdad’s house during the summer. The issue was nobody could decide what happened after that, or whether Jimmy went back to school or college. The main worry Rockstar had that contributed to its cancellation was the difficulty in ensuring the game didn’t just become a rerun of the first one.

“It existed, it was playable, it was just a shame it never got off the ground,” a source close to the project claimed. Many developers that worked at Rockstar New England during the time period list an “unannounced game” on their CVs.

Even with this new information, that doesn’t mean the series is truly over. This is just another piece in a lot of news over the years that has talked about a Bully 2 in the works or conversely, Bully 2 not in Rockstar’s current plans. It has been suggested that Rockstar could explore Bully 2 again in the future, though no one knows if the sequel is in active development.
