‘Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin’ Introduces A New Chapter
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a sequel to the 2017 original game for Nintendo 3DS. Unlike other Monster Hunter series that focus more on the action RPG, Monster Hunter Stories 2 will be featuring more storylines for players to explore.
As the protagonist, you will become a Rider who was born and raised in Mahana, a village on a tropical island. Hoping to uncover the recent mysterious events, you decide to follow in the footsteps of your grandfather, who once made an impactful contract with Guardian Ratha to protect the island. To begin this journey, you will meet Ena, who serves as a guide to Red, and be given an egg from Guardian Ratha. A Rathalos will then burst forth, born with the prophecy: “When the wings unfurl, disaster will befall the land.” Whether the path leads to hope or terror will lie in the hands of you.
The rich plot is not the only exciting element for the fans. As a sequel, Monster Hunter Stories 2 still retains the core mechanics of the original game. Players can expect to hatch, raise, and live alongside fancy monsters as a Monster Rider. As for the battle system, the first game featured a combat triangle surrounding speed, power, and technique, and according to Ryozo Tsujimoto, the longtime Monster Hunter series producer, this unique system can still be seen in the follow-up, but with some new confidential adjustments.
“The base combat is still going to use that rock-paper-scissors mechanic,” Tsujimoto said. “But we have new elements as well that will be unique to this game, which we can talk more about at a later date.”
Another return is the monster gene system, which granted passive skills to monsters, such as boosts to attack, critical hits, and evasion. Tsujimoto also confirmed that the system will be refined and brought to the fans again.
Besides the gameplay experience that will be available on July 9, 2021, players can also purchase the characters’ amiibos on GameStop to celebrate Monster Hunter Stories 2. Click HERE to preorder Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin!
