Motive Studios, an Electronic Arts studio behind Star Wars: Battlefront II and Star Wars: Squadrons, are reportedly working on reviving a well-known series. Jeff Grubb of GamesBeat now reports that the series in question is Dead Space.

Grubb first alluded to the idea that Motive was working on “established IP” during a stream in March. He then published an article on July 2 which claims that this IP is Dead Space. Grubb went into further depth, explaining that Motive is “rebooting the franchise with a full-fledged remake.”

The new Dead Space title is reportedly inspired by Capcom’s remakes of Resident Evil games. Capcom remade the original Resident Evil along with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. These remakes take heavy inspiration from the original games but bring improved visuals and adjusted gameplay. According to Grubb, the Dead Space remake will make similar changes.

Any large announcements by Motive will likely take place on July 22 at EA Play Live. Motive Studios has hinted at a big upcoming project in the past. In a tweet by the studio on November 4, 2020, they stated that they are “working on something pretty special” that was not a new Star Wars project.

Dead Space was first released in 2008 by developer EA Redwood Shores. Since then, two additional mainline games in the series were released in 2011 and 2013. IronMonkey Studios also released a mobile Dead Space game in 2011. The survival-horror series features a third-person perspective from which the player battles horrifying creatures.

Time will tell, however, if these rumors are true or false. For now, fans must wait until EA Play on July 22 for a possible reveal.
