‘Borderlands 3’ New Trailer, Won’t Support Cross-Platform Play At Launch

Borderlands 3 will not support cross-platform when it launches in September. Cross-platform play is a feature in games where PS4, Xbox One and PC players can be supported and play together in multiplayer modes. It’s a prominent feature in titles such as Epic GamesFortnite and the new Call of Duty coming this fall.

Gearbox, however, is “committed” to bring cross-platform play to Borderlands 3, according to Randy Pitchford, the boss of Gearbox, per Gamespot’s report.

Another teaser came out on Tuesday for the third numerical installment of the Borderlands series, which revealed the Claptrap is making a return. Moreover, the trailer also featured this title’s playable vault characters, showing the cast dancing around the battlefield in a lively trailer. Check it out:

Pitchford tweeted the news about cross-play, saying, “Some folks may be speculating that this thing tomorrow may be about cross play. Tomorrow’s thing is awesome, but *not* about cross-play. But, Good News: We are committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 with our partners as soon as practicable after launch,” he tweeted, according to PC Gamer. “To be clear, there will not be any cross-play functionality in Borderlands 3 at launch as we work closely with our partners to create a positive cross-play experience as soon as practicable. We are committed to cross-play on as many platforms as possible.”

Borderlands 3 is a four-player co-op game that makes the campaign playable with three other friends. When 2K revealed they wouldn’t be able to support cross-platform play from launch, they told Gamespot, “cross-play is something we’re looking at closely, but we don’t have anything to confirm or announce at this time.”

Borderlands 3 will launch on September 13 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will later come to Google Stadia following that platform’s launch.
