ESRB Listing Reveals Existence Of ‘Ghost Of Tsushima’ Director’s Cut

Recently, an Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) listing unearthed a Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut. The game is rated M for mature and has the same description as the original Ghosts of Tsushima, which was developed by Sucker Punch Studios.

The listing also details that this title will be available for both Playstation 4 and 5. Ghosts of Tsushima was originally released on the Playstation 4 and has only been available for that system up to this point. The publisher is also listed as Sony Interactive Entertainment, which published the original Ghosts of Tsushima. Another curious element in this listing is the fact that there are in-game purchases, but only for the Playstation 4 version. The reasons and implications for this are unknown. It is possible that this is some sort of misunderstanding by ESRB as the current PS4 version has no in-game purchase options.

This develops as we have not heard any official word from Sucker Punch or Sony about the director’s cut version of the game. Although nothing is confirmed, players speculate that an expansion known as Ghost of Ikishima will be somehow included. It is also possible that this version will feature other extras, such as behind-the-scenes content and graphical updates for the PS5 version. It is possible, however, that the Playstation 5 version will simply be a backward-compatible rendition that is identical to the original Playstation 4 game.

Ghosts of Tsushima was first released on July 17, 2020. The Samurai-themed open-world Action-adventure title has sold around 6.5 million copies as of March 2021. It has since received resounding praise, winning a BAFTA for Audio Achievement in 2021, a Game Award for Best Art Direction in 2020 and receiving a user score of 9.2 on Metacritic. That said, the game was criticized for being boring at some points and having limited activity options in open-world sections.

A film tie-in for Ghosts of Tsushima was also announced by Sony on March 25, 2021. Chad Stahleski will direct this film while members of Sucker Punch will oversee the operation as producers.
