Farfetch’d Finally Gets An Evolution In Sirfetch’d, Internet Reacts Lovingly

To paraphrase myself, some Pokémon are destined to be more popular than others, but every Pokémon is someone’s favorite. Farfetch’d, while not my singular favorite even from its generation, has always been one I’ve appreciated, thanks to its simplistic design and unique weapon choice. However, the spotlight has always eluded the Wild Duck Pokémon; it’s remarkably weak in battle, and it never scored that evolution it was intended to get. Pokémon Sword and Shield are rectifying that by finally giving the first generation’s overlooked duck an evolution, and its name is Sirfetch’d.

Contrasting its typing as a Farfetch’d, Sirfetch’d – owing to its knight motif – is a Fighting-type, its ability is Steadfast and it has a signature move called Meteor Assault.

Meteor Assault is a new move introduced in these games that only Sirfetch’d can learn! Sirfetch’d points its leek at the opponent and charges toward them at great speed. This move is devastatingly powerful! However, it appears that the move also puts great strain on Sirfetch’d. It will be unable to take action immediately after using this move.

Visually, the buff bird improves upon its predecessor’s phenomenal unibrow and tool – whereas the brown bird utilizes a standard leek, the new Wild Duck fights with a leek sword and a leaf shield. According to the official website, the fighter is known for its nobility, so much so that “they are often chosen as a motif for paintings.” However, the warrior will disappointingly be exclusive to Pokémon Sword.

The Pokémon Company first teased Sirfetch’d a few days ago through a pixelated image. Dedicated fans were able to deduce the mystery Pokémon was likely related to Farfetch’d, and (perhaps fittingly for the leek-yielding family) the existence of Sirfetch’d was leaked. Reception to the new critter has been positive thus far, with many taking to social media to profess their love for the smug-looking specimen. And as to be expected of the Pokémon fanbase, fan art starring the albino duck is already abundant:

In other Pokémon news, Pokémon GO has once again expanded its creature pool, and anime protagonist Ash Ketchum finally won a formal Pokémon League on Sunday.
