While recapping a recent trip to London in his blog, George R.R. Martin hints at a possible upcoming project with a Game of Thrones actress.
Since the Game of Thrones television series ended in 2019, there have been plenty of rumors regarding the development of spin-off series. Fans want more and for good reason considering the magnitude of Game of Thrones’s popularity. As of now, the only spin-off series to come from the franchise has been House of the Dragon which aired in 2022 and currently only has 2 seasons.
However, a recent quote from Martin’s blog gives fans hope that there is going to be a future spin-off series about the character Arya Stark played by Maisie Williams. Martin wrote: “We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it… But it could be so much fun.”
This got many fans thinking of the possibility of an Arya centered spin-off series, possibly one that explores her story after she defeated the Night King in season 8 of Game of Thrones. This could make up for the cancellation of the Jon Snow centered series that was previously in the works. Of course, this potential project between Martin and Williams could be something else entirely, but many fans are hopeful as such a series could be the first time the original characters and timeline would be returned to since Game of Thrones ended.
All fans can do for now is keep their fingers crossed and wait. In the meantime, however, there is another Game of Thrones spin-off series that is confirmed to be released in late 2025. The series is titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and will follow the “unlikely heroes” Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his companion, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). The series will take place 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones and will be based off of Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas.
