‘Ghost Of Tsushima’ Finally Gets A Release Date

Back in 2017 at Paris Games Week, Sucker Punch Games revealed Ghost of Tsushima and its teaser trailer. Now, almost three years later, we finally have details on the release date.

The game will be released in July exclusively on PS4.

The original release date was delayed from June 26 to July 17, due to all of the issues around the coronavirus pandemic.

Ghost of Tsushima is set on the Japanese Island of Tsushima. This island was invaded in 1274 by Mongol Raiders. Sucker Punch Games did an immense amount of research on the island and its history, including the story of the original beach where the Mongols first struck land.

The leader of the story mode is Jin Sakai. After years of training as a samurai, Jin takes his skills and lessons in hand, to fend off forces that outnumber the island’s inhabitants.

Sucker Punch’s Chris Zimmerman has described the tone of the game as brutal, but the story mode will reflect many sides of humanity, that often get overlooked in combat video games.

An 18-minute gameplay demonstration will be revealed during this week’s State of Play stream, beginning at 1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET.

The creators of the game have made sure to offer a handful of language options for all players. There are both Japanese and Mongolian voiceovers with English subtitles for those who prefer that language option in their story mode.

Zimmerman has noted the varying difficulty setting that will cater to a wide range of player skills.

“There are difficulty levels and that’s actually kind of more important for us than it is for a lot of games, because it’s an open world game and lots of different people play those games for different reasons. There are people who are going to say it’s beautiful and they just want to see what it’s like, and yeah, their experience has to be different than somebody who looks at it like they’ve always wanted to play a really grounded katana fighting game, and the fantasy for them is about challenge, discipline, practice and precision – that’s what they expect of samurai and that’s what the game should demand from them as the player.”

Fans with PS4’s can now pre-order the game below.
