Grand Theft Auto Online (Rockstar Games)
Since its release in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V’s online mode has been a haven for exploits, mods and cheats. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have been admirably vigilant in punishing individual cheaters in GTA V Online as early the game’s release. The companies in recent years, however, have turned instead to punishing websites offering cheats for their games. Some have made a business out of the demand for Grand Theft Auto V Online cheats like in the case of LunaCheats. After several years of paid service, the LunaCheats website suddenly went down last week and returned with only this message:
“After discussions with Take-Two Interactive, we are immediately ceasing all maintenance, development and distribution of our cheat menu services. We will also be donating our proceeds to a charity designated by Take-Two.
We apologize for any and all problems our software has caused to the Grand Theft Auto Online community.”
This marks the second cheat site taken down by Take-Two Interactive following a similar shutting down, and subsequent pledge to charitable donation from cheat site Elusive in 2019.
Despite Elusive’s donation to charity, the cheat site still paid $150,000 in damages to Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games. LunaCheats has not officially been sued by the game companies, and may be complying in order to avoid litigation.
