Square Enix has announced at the Tokyo Game Show that new games in the Nier franchise will be arriving in the west in 2021. The first of these games will be Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139, a remake of the 2010 original released on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will feature a revamped combat, new full HD graphics, texture upgrades and new Japanese voiceover work. It’s currently unknown if the English cast of the game will return or if they will be recast.
New cover art for the games’ U.S. release will be featured. Meanwhile, Japanese gamers will have the option to purchase the White Flower Edition, including a display box, “unusually heavy” Grimoire pins, full voiceover scripts and more. No word on if the U.S. will get this edition. Nier Replicant will arrive in the U.S/ in April 2021 for PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam.
The second game announced for release is Nier Re[in]carnated. The game will be a free-to-play mobile spin-off of the series and feature a mixture of 3D and 2D gameplay elements. The game will take place in “The Cage” and will have players collecting pieces of something called “weapons memory.” Players will also be following a new character named Mama. Preregistrations for the game has started, and if they exceed over 500,000 users, everyone will receive 3,000 gems to spend in-game, or about ten gacha pulls. If one million preregister, the team may make a golden statue of Mama and give it away.
