After Nintendo unveiled a video showing off some of the new content coming to Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury, the company has released another that goes into detail about what to expect in the upcoming port of one of Wii U’s best games.
The first new feature to be introduced in the Switch version of 3D World will be online co-op. Nintendo is usually keen about including such a feature in Mario games (aside from Mario Kart), but this will be a first for the mainline series. You’ll be able to join a group of random players or create a room for yourself and three friends so that you can play every course online.
Another new feature is snapshot mode, which will allow you to pause the game and take pictures of Mario and the gang. The various stamps found in the game can now be used to customize your pictures, along with the addition of various filters.
The video then goes into detail about the new “Bowsers Fury” content. The new world is a Cat Kingdom that will have Mario and Bowser Jr. team up to stop Bowser for some unknown reason. Unlike the isometric view of 3D World, Bowsers Fury‘s camera system will be right behind Mario, like in past 3D Mario platformers. You’ll also be using the creature Plessie to traverse across the world.
Mario will have to deal with Bowser randomly throughout Bowsers Fury. At any time, a ginormous Bowser will awaken to wreak havoc in the Cat Kingdom and try to take out his nemesis. You’ll have to dodge and hide from the King of Koopas to avoid his attacks. To put a stop to Bowser, Mario and Bowser Jr. must collect Cat Shines to purify the Giga Bell. This will allow Mario to transform into Giga Cat Mario and take on Bowser.
Finally, Super Mario 3D World will be getting special Amiibo support, with Cat Mario and Cat Peach Amiibo’s being available at launch. Cat Mario will give you an invincible catsuit (something you only get if you die a lot in a level), while Cat Peach will grant you a random power-up.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury will release on February 12, 2021, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
