Grand Theft Auto 5 (Rockstar/Take-Two)
Rockstar Games has officially announced that they are working on a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, after nearly 10 years since the release of the last game.
“Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we’ve previously delivered. We’re pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway,” they tweeted.
No other information about the title was shared, but fans were told to “stay tuned” for additional updates that would be coming in the future.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that the team’s goal with the next game was to top Grand Theft Auto V, the most recent game in the series.
“Each iteration for all of our successful franchises at this company, all of them, has always done better than the one before,” Zelnick told IGN. “I’m not saying that’ll happen again, I’m not saying that’s guaranteed, but that’s certainly our goal.”
Topping the monumental success of Grand Theft Auto V will be difficult as the game recently passed 160 million units sold, and brings in an estimated $2.5 million in revenue a day.
Zelnick was quick to tell fans not to expect any news right away, as the promotion of the game will be left up to Rockstar Games.
Fans of the series took to social media to share their excitement about the new entry, as well as poke fun at Rockstar’s notoriously slow release schedule.
As excited as fans might be for more news, it’s not going to be coming just yet as Grand Theft Auto V Expanded And Enhanced Edition will be launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in March.
