Splatoon has enjoyed a short yet nevertheless colorful life; the series debuted on the Wii U in 2015 and quickly became one of Nintendo’s flagship properties, with its Inkling characters appearing in merchandise, crossovers like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and a direct sequel hit the Switch in 2017. Splatoon 2, as with its predecessor, has enjoyed a wealth of post-launch support and patches, and its latest firmware update, Version 4.90, is now available to download.
Splatoon 2‘s latest version doesn’t add any new weapons or trinkets for players to mess around with, but it does re-balance those that are already present. It also sports some adjustments to the game’s “Salmon Run” mode, fixing a few issues that have troubled players.
Those seeking to update their multiplayer shooter can do so by booting up the Switch’s HOME Menu and then launch the game from it. If the system is connected to the internet, it will detect the update and start downloading it automatically. Once it’s finished installing the patch, the Splatoon 2 title screen will display that it’s running Version 4.90 of the game.
