Superhot VR Blasted With Negative Reviews After Deleting Self-Harm Scenes

Recently, Superhot VR got an “important update,” removing scenes where player-characters hurt themselves. None of the players seemed to appreciate it. In fact, the comments section turned into a warzone bombarded by fury and frustration.

On July 21, the devs issued the update with a short post to explain their decision.“’Skip disturbing scenes’ toggle was added in a previous update. Considering the sensitive time we’re living in, we can do better than that. You deserve better. All scenes alluding to self-harm are now completely removed from the game. These scenes have no place in superhot virtual reality. We regret it took us so long,” said the Superhot team.

However, if players scroll down to the discussion thread, it is nearly impossible to find one comment supporting this update. Most players regard cutting these scenes as redundant and preposterous. Player TitanChimp commented, “Snowflakes 1 – Devs 0,” mocking sensitive people for the unnecessary cut. Satan also called it “a terrible choice to make your game duller and take one of the elements that really made Superhot stand out from other games.” The number of negative comments triggered Valve’s anti-review-bombing tech to kick in and filter out the flood of criticism.

This incident makes many wonder if “violent” scenes in other games will face similar treatment. Should that happen, shining on the top-wanted list will be the GTA series, in which all those fierce gangstas might not even have access to guns. In a world dominated by political correctness, it’s very likely that this sort of update will happen in the near future.
