Twitch Source Code And Payment Information Leaked In A Huge Hack

An anonymous hacker has posted a 125 GB torrent link on 4Chan containing the source code and payout information of the popular video game streaming site Twitch.

The hacker said that he leaked the information in order to “foster more disruption and competition in the online video streaming space” because the Twitch community is a disgusting toxic cesspool.”

The leak was titled “part one” implying that more information will be leaked in the future.

The current leak includes three years’ worth of payout information, source codes for different Twitch clients and the entire comment history of the website. It appears that no user information, such as passwords or credit card information, was included in part one of the leaks.

The Verge also reported that the data included information about a potential Steam competitor to be launched by Amazon and security information for the site.

Twitch confirmed that the leak is real, but is currently attempting to figure out the scope of the leaked information.

Despite user data not being included in the leak, this does increase the risk of user information being leaked in the future.

This comes as Twitch faces major criticism for not doing its job to protect minority creators from “hate raids.” These raids have been used to attack minority creators by spamming their chat with racial slurs, homophobic/transphobic language and calls for the streamer to commit suicide.

Twitch responded to the criticism by announcing that they are working on more security features to help protect creators from these raids and sued two users who were behind some of these raids.
