After a two-year delay, Rocksteady Studio’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is planned to release on February 2, with fans waiting in anticipation for the newest entry of the Arkham game series. This game follows DC Comic’s Suicide Squad, comprising the characters of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark, traveling to Metropolis to stop an alien invasion that has brainwashed members of the Justice League.
Directed by Sefton Hill and Axel Rydby, the game was originally listed to release in 2022 but was delayed due to production issues. The game will have both single-player and multiplayer support, with Metropolis being free to roam for players in an open world map. In a recent trailer of the game, we see that you can play any of the main cast members of the Suicide Squad as well as other reformed villains in the DC line-up.
According to fans and reviewers who were able to attend the Closed Alpha Test, the game’s main storyline was fun to engage with, although the gameplay was much to be desired. For many fans, the fighting mechanics seem too similar to other open-world action games with some attacks being too awkward to employ in battle. There were also several complaints regarding side missions in the game being tedious, not allowing players to immerse themselves into the interesting worldbuilding the narrative has set before them.
There have also been concerns regarding the amount of post-launch content the game will have, leaving some fans to believe that if you are not active in the community, a player might be left out when new updates are released. Although this practice is common with live-service games, this would be a big challenge for an AAA studio to keep track of.
Despite hesitance, fans are excited for this new release with the game having the final performance of beloved voice actor, Kevin Conroy, as the voice of Batman following his passing in late 2022.
