Sega Announces Release Of Game Gear Micro

June 3 was the 60th anniversary of Sega. The franchise that brought us Sonic the Hedgehog among other series, is celebrating with the release of an old-but-new product.

Sega announced that they will be bringing back Game Gear in a miniature version called the Sega Game Gear Micro. The console is set to come out October 6 in Japan for around $46.

The Sega Game Gear Micro does in fact live up to its ‘micro’ name, as it will only be about three inches wide and an inch tall. It will come in four different colors, red, yellow, blue and black.

Here is a list of the games that will be available on the console:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Puyo Puyo 2
  • OutRun
  • Royal Stone
  • Sonic & Tails
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Sylvan Tale
  • Baku Baku Animal
  • Shining Force Gaiden
  • Shining Force Gaiden 2
  • Shining Force Gaiden Final Conflict
  • Nazo Puyo Arle no Roux
  • Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible
  • Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
  • The GG Shinobi
  • Columns

For those concerned about eye strain that might occur from playing on such a small screen, Sega does have a solution with Big Window Micro magnifying glass which, as the name suggests, will make the picture on the screen a little bit bigger.

There has yet to be an announcement for release in the United States.
