Helmed by 47 Meters Down and The Strangers: Prey at Night’s Johannes Roberts, the upcoming film will wipe the slate clean with a fresh new start that promises to stay closer to the roots of the video game series, as opposed to the action-heavy film series that Paul W.S. Anderson worked on from 2002 to 2017.
Set in 1998, the movie will star Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.
Resident Evil is set to release on September 9, 2021. Along with a new Resident Evil movie, a separate animated series, Resident Evil: Into Darkness, will be released on Netflix sometime in 2021, which will star Leon Kennedy and Clair Redfield as the main protagonists. Joining these two adaptations of the Resident Evil franchise will be a new game in the series, Resident Evil Village, releasing in 2021.
