In a surprise reveal Thursday, developer Tribute Games and publisher Dotemu announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge coming to PC and Consoles on an undisclosed date.

The announcement trailer’s animated opening is reminiscent of the turtles’ classic 1980’s cartoon series, and the beat-em-up play-style is reminiscent of that era’s games as well.

Classic TMNT game fans will instantly see the resemblance between Tribute Games’ newest project and the arcade juggernaut Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which hit arcades in 1989. Anyone lucky enough to play this rare cabinet will attest, it is one of the finest beat-em-up games ever.

Dotemu made waves for their retro-revival Streets of Rage 4 in 2019 and Tribute Games are the architect of games like Flinthook and Mercenary Kings.

The new turtle adventure already has a live Steam page where Shredder-slaying hopefuls can wish-list the upcoming title. The page says players can look forward to “radical combos” and that each of the Turtles has full, unique move-sets.

The Steam page also details the game’s story, but I bet you can guess it without me even telling you. Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady and more classic Turtles villains are up to no good and it’s up to the bandanna’d reptiles to clean up Manhattan.

Also matching its arcade origins, the upcoming Turtles game can host four players simultaneously. While Doemu and Tribute Games haven’t confirmed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge’s release date, the footage shown is full and promising enough that players may be cutting down the Foot Clan sooner rather than later.
