Sometimes I forget that the PlayStation 5 came out more than six months ago. I’ve only seen one in person and that bad-boy had a $1,000 price tag. Those of you looking to get a PlayStation 5 for less than the black market value of 2 livers and a kidney on ice will seemingly have to wait until 2022.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CFO Totoki Hiroki told Bloomberg Sunday that “I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand.”

SIE has every incentive to continue producing PS5 units, as every restock they put in the market is swallowed whole. Of course, an unfortunate number of those units make their way to scalper circles which then resell the units making ungodly returns.

The beginning of a console generation, however, generally has few enough games that it’s not terribly difficult to just wait a few months or until that system has a few more games. Unless you are some crazed super-fan for one game, it generally doesn’t make financial sense for normal people to spend $500 on a white box that plays 5 games.
